Manchester United have agreed a 10-year, £750 million deal with Adidas AG for the German sportswear company to supply shirts and kit to the former English soccer champions.

United, who finished seventh in the Premier League last season, had previously enjoyed a long-running supply deal with Nike, the world's largest sportswear group. Adidas will take over the contract from the 2015/16 season.

The deal, announced on Monday, is a record for the Manchester club and will result in United receiving double the average sums paid to European rivals.

Nike were paying United £23.5m a year, meaning a £51.5m jump in income for the Premier League club.

The world-record breaking deal smashes the previous record, which was a £31m deal between Adidas and Real Madrid.

Adidas chief executive Herbert Hainer said "the deal would help the firm "to further strengthen our position in key markets around the world".

He also went on to say expected kit sales should reach £1.5b over the course of the partnership between the two sporting giants.
