Wasteland 2's opening cinematic has been revealed by developer inXile Entertainment.
The footage tells the origin story of the game's Desert Rangers faction and sheds light on the cataclysmic events the story is based around.
Wasteland 2 will feature a variety of regions including the deserts and snow-covered mountains of Arizona and the coastal landscape of Los Angeles and southern California.
inXile claims that the title offers more than 50 hours of gameplay and features a word count greater than the Lord of the Rings novels.
The game raised almost $3 million (£1.9m) during its successful funding campaign on Kickstarter last year.
Wasteland 2 will be released for PC at the end of August.
