Variety reports that Roberto Orci will direct the upcoming Star Trek 3 sequel for Paramount. The film will be Orci's directorial debut.
Orci is currently writing the story with J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. He had been campaigning for the role to direct the film after JJ Abrams moved away from the franchise in order to direct Star Wars: Episode VII. Abrams is still attached to produce Star Trek 3 with his producing Bryan Burke and Skydance's David Ellison.
Paramount and Skydance reps would not comment on the news. Orci is repped by CAA.
