Will Ferrell and his partner in crime Adam McKay are reportedly executive producing a new Flintstones project that brings the animated series to the silver screen.
The Hollywood Reporter says that Chris Henchy (The Campaign, The Other Guys) — who's partners with Ferrell and McKay in Gary Sanchez Productions — is writing the screenplay for the Flintstones reboot. The animated film project is purportedly in the development stages and follows the shelved TV version reboot of The Flintstones that Seth MacFarlane was working on. He apparently was too busy to give the series the time and attention it needed.
Warner Bros. is behind the new Flintstones animated project, and if the film moves ahead, it would be the first time Fred, Barney, Wilma, and Betty have been on the big screen since the Universal-distributed The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas in 2000.
