The New York Post reports that the UFC is suing 27-year-old Steven Messina for $32 million for being one of the more prolific pirates of UFC PPV events. Messina lives in Great Kills, Staten Island with his parents.
The promotion claims that Messina uploaded 141 events to file-sharing sites like The Pirate Bay and provided a Paypal donaton link to keep uploading the events. He thought he was anonymous with the handle "Secludedly", but UFC found out his real name and location then filed the suit. They took notice of him when he began to brag and called himself the "Provider of Best MMA & Boxing rips online!" He asked viewers to "Help Me Cap PPV!" through his Paypal account, called the "MMA Capping Fund!". He was trying to become the "king of PPV pirates". His group of friends "are intent on becoming the most well known pirates and infringers on the internet by making their mark on the major torrent websites available on the internet."
The UFC, along with HBO Boxing and WWE, is one of the highest-grossing PPV attractions on TV.
