Steven Spielberg will reportedly direct the upcoming movie adaptation of The BFG.
According to Hollywood Reporter, the project will reunite Spielberg with E.T writer Melissa Mathison.
The live-action film will tell the story of Sophie, an orphan who is snatched from her bed and befriended by the eponymous giant. It was previously made into an ITV animated movie in 1989.
Spielberg is reportedly aiming to start production in 2015 and release the film the following year.
After DreamWorks acquired rights to the book in 2011, directors such as Chris Columbus have been attached to the project. Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall are on board as producers.
Spielberg recently announced an interest in directing a remake of West Side Story, and will once again team up with Tom Hanks for a Cold War thriller.
